Francesca Horan is a 16 year old budding artist from Sneads Ferry, NC. She is the niece of Denny Owens, the construction manager for The Lexington Area Habitat for Humanity, and was inspired to participate in Doors to Homes & Hope because of his commitment to the organization.
The “Doors to Homes and Hope” was part of the 3rd Annual Benefit – An Evening in Vintage Hollywood – for the Habitat for Humanity of the Lexington, NC area. “Doors to Homes and Hope” was a community initiative that invited the community to decorate doors purchased from the local Habitat ReStore. Executive Director, Marjorie Parker, explained the reason behind the benefit, “The annual benefit is our major fundraiser. The funds raised at this event stay in Lexington. We tried to come up with an interesting way to tie in fundraising to building homes. What better way than to paint or decorate a door. A door symbolizes home, which is what Habitat is all about – providing safe, decent, affordable housing and making shelter a matter of consciousness to all.”
The doors were auctioned off at the benefit. The proceeds from the art initiative and the benefit went to help build homes in the community for families that have partnered with Habitat for Humanity of the Lexington, NC area.
